Influence of Sulfate Reduction on Arsenic Migration and Transformation in Groundwater Environment

The sulfate-reducing bacteria-mediated reduction process is considered to be an important mechanism affecting arsenic migration and transformation in anaerobic environments. To investigate the effect of bacteria a high-arsenic aquifer on transformation, typical Desulfovibrio vulgaris was selected for micro-cosmic experiments simulate groundwater environment with or without sulfate amendment. Fe(III) As(V) by identified, were reduced both sulfate-free sulfate-containing systems. However, addition 1 mM significantly enhanced reduction. Compared no addition, increased rates 111.9% 402.2%, respectively. mediated also remarkably promoted release sediments. These results indicated that concentration should when used as remediation method pollution groundwater.
